3 Mumbai Suspects Added to Terrorism List

UNITED NATIONS, Dec 11: The United Nations Security Council’s sanctions committee put three leaders of Lashkar-e-Taiba and a Saudi operative on a terrorist watch-list, says a document released here on Wednesday night.

Muhammad Saeed, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Haji Muhammad Ashraf and Mohmoud Mohammad Ahmed Bahaziq, are “subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo,” set out in Security Council resolution 1822 of 2008, the document issued by the Al Qaeda and Taliban Sanctions Committee said.

The UN Security Council decision came after a day-long debate on terrorism in which an Indian government minister urged the council to help punish anyone responsible for the deadly attacks in Mumbai by adding them to a UN terrorism blacklist.

“We have requested the Security Council to proscribe the Pakistani group Jamaatud Dawa since it is a terrorist outfit,” Indian Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed said.

The sanctions committee also listed the numerous aliases of LeT and two entities that provide it with funds — Al Rashid Trust and Al Akhtar Trust International — and which are also subject to UN sanctions.
