Estonian Ministry of Justice develops a draft bill which will entitle homosexuals to register their relations with the state. "We promised to include the law on partnership relations into the parliament schedule for 2009," Rein Lang, minister of justice, said Thursday to the Eesti Paevaleht.
"We hope to be treated equally with bisexual pairs," Jaan Kroon, coordinator of Estonian on Center for Gays and Lesbians, said in his turn.
According to him, "one-sex pairs do not ask to be recognized by the Church or to refer to their partnership as marriage, but they want to have the right to adopt, for example, each others children.
"It is still unknown, how homosexuals will register their relationships, because at first the parliament has to make amendments to the laws on citizenship, inheritance, and property acquisition. According to the pall of parliament members conducted by the newspaper, the majority of parliament parties is ready to grant homosexuals the right to register their joint residence. However, the parliament is unwilling to grant homosexuals the right to adopt children.
