An American Mumbai?

I read a good deal of fiction and have a very good imagination. I know that terrorists meticulously plan their attacks to produce the maximum possible destruction. I was wondering where they would strike to maximize the death toll and came up with this novelesque scenario:

The World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Computing (WORLDCOMP'09) will hold its annual conference at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas in July 13-16, 2009.

The conference is expected to bring together about 2500 researchers in computer science, computer engineering and applied computing. Many of these folks are the world's leading figures in technologies that can potentially curb the global wave of terrorism. One such figure is Prof. Hamid Arabnia, designer of a lip-reading machine and image systems that have practical applications for security screeners.

Now image a terrorist attack during the WORLDCOMP'09 conference and the close proximity of these hotels, casinos and the airport. This would be Mumbai all over again.

No wonder security is a concern and high priority in Las Vegas!
