LANDI KOTAL, Nov 1: A high school for girls was blown up by militants in Bara area on Saturday night. Officials said that the two-storey building of Kareegar Garhai Girls’ High School was destroyed in the explosion.
The school watchman said that dozens of masked armed men blindfolded him before detonating the explosives. Local people said the explosion was so powerful that windowpanes of several houses in the area were smashed.
Four people were injured by pieces of flying debris.
The institution was upgraded to high level from middle four years ago and was one of the oldest schools in the area.
This is the first such incident after troops launched a crackdown to flush out militants from the area. No organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, troops pounded militants’ positions on the Ziyarhai hilltops after an army base in Landi Kotal came under rocket attack.
