Double Standards for Patient Modesty?

Dr. Maurice Bernstein continues the discussion of ethics surrounding the question of patient modesty. He writes, "We are starting 'Patient Modesty: Volume 11' migrating from Volume 10. The theme continues and comes from male patients who are uncomfortable with female healthcare providers when dealing with particularly the male genital area. The argument is that the medical system arranges for women patients to have women healthcare providers for modesty sensitive exams and procedures if the woman wishes but the same opportunity to gender selection is not provided to male patients."
