To be an effective learner, an individual must be motivated to learn new information.
A person must also be open to new principles and to the ideas of others -- instead of having rigid unchangeable beliefs -- to be an effective learner.
Having a positive attitude and flexibility toward learning, then, are two critical criteria that are necessary for effective learning to occur.
I agree, George. People do what they want to do and they believe what they want to believe. This is our natural way. To seek truth beyond our natural tendency is heroic and noble.
