Quote of the Week - Yemitom

"From what I have read in the Bible, it seems that the Temple design included no accommodation for seats (pews). Worshippers stood and had room to prostrate in the presence of Our Father, unlike the design of many churches today. I wonder at times if we have perhaps today become lazy in worship." ---Yemitom  (From here.)

Two thousand years ago, churches and temples were built, for the most part, without seats.

Today, most churches and temples have pews, although some churches -- especially Russian Orthodox churches -- still do not have seats.

Having seats in churches today should not be considered to be the result of laziness -- many churches require standing for about half of the service -- but rather the result of affordability.

Good point. And the Orthodox still prostrate before the eucharistic Presence of Christ our God.
