Only God can make a priest, and priests are closer to God than other human beings -- especially insofar as teaching God's doctrine is concerned -- because they can articulately convey God's message to their parishioners in their preaching.
In fact, Christians address priests as "father" because priests are considered to be descendants of God the Father.
