WASHINGTON, Dec 11: The US State Department said on Saturday that Ambassador Richard Holbrooke was in critical condition after doctors completed surgery to repair a tear in his aorta.
“Ambassador Richard Holbrooke was admitted to George Washington University Hospital yesterday,” the department said. “This (Saturday) morning, doctors completed surgery to repair a tear in his aorta. He is in critical condition.”
US special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan fell ill during a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday and walked down to the department’s medical unit and was later taken to the hospital.
