Pakistan Leaders Gather to Discuss Terrorism

ISLAMABAD: An All Parties Conference (APC) convened by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is being held today to devise a national strategy to eradicate the menace of terrorism and to garner support for the military action against the Taliban in Swat and other areas of Malakand.

A 17-member parliamentary committee of both houses of parliament recently submitted its report on the issue to the prime minister but it is not clear if the APC will discuss it.

The conference will discuss the overall situation and the problem of the exodus of people from the area where the army has launched an offensive against the Taliban.

The Prime Minister House has invited leaders of 43 political parties, including those not represented in parliament. Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan told reporters on Sunday that all leaders had accepted the invitation to attend the APC.
