KARACHI: Some fifty schools run by the Catholic Board of Education remained closed on Monday in protest against the Gojra riots.
The institutions would remain closed for two more days.
Talking to Dawn, the chairman of the Catholic Board of Education, Father Mario Rodrigues, said that the schools had been closed to condemn the Gojra killings. Around 10,000 students are enrolled in these 50 schools.
‘We denounce the Gojra killings in the strongest terms and urge the government to apprehend the culprits and provide protection to the minorities,’ he said while demanding the abolition of the controversial blasphemy law.
No meeting of the Christian community’s representatives had been held with the government, he further claimed.
When asked about any specific threats to the institutions, he replied in the negative.
